Acclaimed Mentalist David Levitan at Temple Tikvah

On February 5 at 7:30 p.m. Temple Tikvah, 3315 Hillside Avenue, New Hyde Park,  will host the Internationally Acclaimed Mentalist David Levitan. Herricks Students to Compete Against Calhoun on MSG Varsity

Taking on the students at Calhoun High School will be Herricks High School students James Bhaidas, Julie Chang, Neil Pathak, Akhil Sharma and Edward Vargas. The first round match will air at 5:30 p.m. on Cablevision’s iO TV Channel 13 MSG Varsity, the high school quiz show.

Boy Scout Troop No. 298 to Hold Pancake Breakfast

The Parents Club and Boy Scout Troop No. 298 in New Hyde Park is sponsoring its Annual Pancake Breakfast from 9 a.m. to noon at Marcus Christ Hall, corner of New Hyde Park Road and Jericho Turnpike, next to New Hyde Park Village Hall.  There will be door prizes and raffles.  Cost for adults-$6, seniors-$4 and children-$3.  (Anyone under 2 or over 100 eats free!)

Friends of Hillside Library to Hold Valentine’s Tea

The All-Purpose room of Hillside Public Library  will be the setting for the Fourth Annual Valentines’ Tea sponsored by The Friends of Hillside Public Library, on Sunday, February 6 from 12:30 to 3 p.m. The cost is $15 per person and includes, tea, scones, sandwiches and dessert.  Raffles will be available.  Please bring your prettiest teacup.  Seating is limited, to secure your reservation, please respond by January 26.   Reservation forms are available at Hillside Public Library.  This is an “adults only” activity.

Celebration of Black History Month

In celebration of Black History Month Gloria Dei Church, 600 New Hyde Park Road, New Hyde Park, will hold a concert featuring Dene’ Bradford, soprano, the first place winner of the Leontyne Price Voice Competition.  Featured will be hits from West Side Story, La Boheme  and other audience favorites.  Suggested donation is $10 with a portion of the proceeds to benefit Long Island Cares.  For further information, please call 354-6956.

The Board of Trustees of the Shelter Rock Public Library will hold their monthly board meeting at 7:30 p.m. at the Temple Tikvah, 3315 Hillside Avenue, New Hyde Park.  The public is invited to attend. The meeting may contain an executive session for discussion of personnel issues.

Spinner’s Grinners Laughter Yoga in New Hyde Park

Take time to participate in a series of laughter, breathing and playfulness exercises with many, many health benefits.  You don’t have to be happy, you don’t have to be funny, you don’t even need a sense of humor!   Everyone can do this! No joke! We will not be lying on the floor and no knowledge of yoga is necessary.  All activities are done either sitting or standing. We meet twice per month, on a Wednesday night (for approx. 1 hr, 10 min.). Meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. sharp. Ages: 13-80. The Herricks Lunar New Year Celebration will be held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at Herricks High School, 100 Shelter Rock Road, New Hyde Park.  (Snow date will be March 5)  To include Lion Dance, Drum Dance Chinese Food, WuShu, Magic Show, Sing-a-Long, Arts and Crafts, Chinese Circus, Chinese Yo-Yo.  Open Table Tennis and Chinese Chess Tournament from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Walk-in registration.  Hosted by the Asian American Cultural Club.  Sponsored by CAANH (Chinese American Association of North Hempstead  www.cannhli.org.) Arts and Crafts Program at Gloria Dei Lutheran

Mollie Stein is holding an Arts and Crafts Program as part of her Girl Scout Gold Award Project for boys and girls ages 8 to 11 years from 2 to 4 p.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 600 New Hyde Park Road, New Hyde Park.   The project will also be held Feb. 19, 26 and March 5, 12 and 19 with an Art Gallery to be held on March 26.  Please bring a non-perishable food item to each class.  Details will be provided at registration. **Registration will be held at Gloria Dei Church on Feb. 10 from 7-9 PM.** Contact Mollie Stein with any questions at 328-8051 or email at mollieastein@aol.com.

The Doe Club of New Hyde Park will hold its Annual Chinese Auction at the New Hyde Park Elks Club, 901 Lakeville Road, New Hyde Park. The New Hyde Park Chamber of Commerce will hold its general meeting at the Inn of New Hyde Park, 214 Jericho Turnpike, New Hyde Park.  The meeting will include a three minute member spotlight.  A chance to get up and tell the group what you do and why you are different from your competition.  $30 for members, $40 for non-member and $30 for guests.

From Africa to America Presented by Aspiring Young Artists

On February 26 at 1 and 3 p.m. celebrate the roots of popular American dance with performers of Aspiring Young Artists (A.Y.A.) of West Hempstead. The company will be performing dance styles from West Africa and the Caribbean.  Through these demonstrations, the audience will be able to see the cultural, historical and global contributions made from the African Diaspora. Come enjoy this jubilant and colorful celebration of life through rhythm and movement! Ages: 3 and up. Fee: $4 with museum admission ($3 LICM members), $8 theater only.  All activities will be held at the Long Island Children’s Museum, 11 Davis Avenue, Garden City, NY.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.  Museum admission: $10 for adults and children over 1 year old.
