Here Comes the Sun
To celebrate the music and spiritualism of pop superstar George Harrison, Godfrey Townsend and other musicians from The Alan Parsons Project will join an ensemble of Indian Kirtan musicians to perform “Here Comes the Sun” – The Musical, Mystical Journey of George Harrison. This concert will take place at Hofstra University’s John Cranford Adams Playhouse, South Campus, at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 each, general admission. Proceeds benefit a scholarship fund for the School for University Studies. Members of the Hofstra community may receive two free tickets upon presentation of a current HofstraCard. Third Annual Darwin Day
How Science Works is the theme of the third annual Darwin Day Celebration to be held at the Ethical Humanist Society of LI, 38 Old Country Rd. Beginning at 11 a.m., Dr. Victor Shuster will speak on the topic of “How Science Works.” Dr. Schuster is a medical doctor and a professor at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Afterwards, a fun, intergenerational event will take place, which includes a graffiti wall, face painting and the “Survival of the Fittest” game. Biologist Dr. Joan Petersen will lead some hands-on science activities. There will be displays of science projects on the stage. There is no fee; donations will be accepted. Organ Recital
With Frank L. Crosio, director of Music Ministries at the Church of St. Patrick in Huntington, at the Cathedral of the Incarnation, 50 Cathedral Ave., at 8 p.m. He is a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music and a fellow of both the American Guild of Organists and Trinity College, London. Frank has performed throughout the East Coast and in Canada as a recitalist and was a frequent performer at the Cathedral of the Incarnation’s noontime recital series. Recently, Frank completed a four year term of office as dean of the New York City Chapter of the American Guild of Organists and currently serves as district convener for the Metro District. His program will include music by J. S. Bach, Felix Mendelssohn and Henri Mulet.

Ongoing Programs
Exhibit
The Firehouse Plaza Art Gallery, Room 140, College Center Building, Nassau Community College, presents the exhibit Transforming Lives, which runs March 17. The exhibit features photographs of Uganda’s youth taken by artist and activist Stephen Shames of L.E.A.D. (Locate Educate Achieve Dream) Uganda. The nonprofit program collects donations to educate vulnerable children in Uganda. Shames visited Uganda while doing an assignment about AIDS in 2000. As he photographed the funeral of a woman who left behind five children, he formed a special bond with the youngest child, Sarah. Affected by his experience, Shames paid for Sarah’s siblings and other orphans to attend school. This experience inspired him to develop L.E.A.D Uganda in 2004. Sons of Italy

•Group 1: A woman’s bereavement group is available to help women share and learn about their grief. Groups are held on a weekly basis and are facilitated by a licensed clinical social worker.

Cradle of Aviation Museum
In the world of aviation, signals and coded messages are an important part of how airplanes and air traffic control speak everyday. The Cradle of Aviation Museum has a variety of free family activities. Walk through the eight museum galleries and you’ll walk through over 100 years of aerospace history with 75 planes and space craft and a variety of examples of how pilots navigated and communicated from the early days of flight through the space program. Museum activities are free with admission and are available each day from noon to 4 p.m. The museum also is home to the IMAX Dome Theatre and is located on Charles Lindbergh Blvd., Museum Row. NC Coalition Against Domestic Violence
The Coalition is a member agency of the Garden City Community Fund, United Community Fund of Great Neck, Community Chest of Port Washington and United Way of LI. Call 222-2293 for information the following:
•Support groups with individual counseling for incest survivors and survivors of rape and sexual assault. Services are confidential and free of charge. These services are also extended to family members and partners of survivors.
•The coalition operates a safe home for battered women and their children. The Coalition’s Safe Home for Abused Families provides shelter, advocacy and legal assistance, in a safe, warm, supportive, attractive environment. Call the 24-hour hotline 542-0404. The hotline and all services are free and confidential and a counselor can help you find safety.
•If you are 60 or older and suffering from abuse, mistreatment or neglect at the hands of family members or someone who is living with you, help is available. Epilepsy Foundation
Located at 506 Stewart Ave. (739-7733) the following is offered:
•Free Puppet Show on Seizure Disorder. A free children’s program on epilepsy using the internationally acclaimed “Kids on the Block” troupe of puppets to public and private elementary schools.
