The Division Avenue Wrestling team finished an amazing season. The wrestlers upheld tradition with a successful and impressive weekend at Hofstra University at the Nassau County Wrestling Championship on Feb. 12 and 13. As a team, Division placed second in the qualifier behind Plainedge and sixth in Nassau County out of 43 schools.
This is quite an impressive accomplishment. John Pellegrino won the Nassau County Championship in the 125 class with a record of 55 wins and 0 losses.
Juan Carlos Diaz was a qualifying champion in the 171-class. John Shanley placed fourth in the county tournament. Rob McNamara took sixth place overall in Nassau County in the 189 class. The following wrestlers also did extremely well: John Maldonado – qualifying champion at 135; Art Bain – fifth in qualifier at 96; Tom Maguffin – second in qualifier at 103; Jim Kirk – second in qualifier at 130; John Bellucci – fifth in qualifier at 130; Dean Halbohn – sixth in qualifier at 130; Eric Brouillet – second in qualifier at 140; Felix Perez – third in qualifier at 145; Jesse Pizarro – sixth in qualifier at 152; Tim Schweitzer – fifth in qualifier at 189; Mike Roman – fourth in qualifier at 285.
