Farmingdale Runners Score In Annual ‘Run for Aspire’

Congratulations to Farmingdale speedsters and Colleen Gardner and Joan Ackerman, each of whom won awards at the 34th annual Nationwide Insurance 10K Run for ASPIRE, held on the roads of Plainview-Old Bethpage on Sunday, April 3.

The 34-year-old Gardner crossed the finish line at the H.B. Mattlin Middle School in Plainview in a time of 52 minutes, 5 seconds, good for the 1st place trophy in the Athena 140 to 159 pound weight division. The 70-year-old Ackerman scored (1:14:03) to earn the 2nd place trophy in the women’s 70-74 age group.

The biggest story of the day was once again the amputees, with many amputee athletes completing either the full 10K or the special 5K run that started on the halfway point on Round Swamp Road. The total of 755 finishers marked a big jump from only 582 in 2010.
