Free Car Seat Safety Check

Sponsored by Senator Charles J. Fuschillo Jr. (R-Merrick) from 9 a.m. to noon at John Burns Park (front west parking lot), 4990 Merrick Rd., Massapequa Park. Officials from the NC Traffic Safety Board will be performing free safety seat inspections to make sure that drivers have their children’s car seats properly installed and secured. Appointments will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. To schedule an appointment, call Senator Fuschillo’s office a882-0630.

RetroFitness One-Year Celebration

In celebration of the one year anniversary, local owner, Holly Wallman, has invited America’s Next Great Trainer, who’s mission is to educate, empower and transform kids through exercise, health, fitness and proper nutrition, to the RetroFitness (1039 Route 109, E. Farmingdale) to present a youth empowerment and fitness demonstrations. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. In addition, several local public officials will be in attendance to help RetroFitness celebrate. There will be a live DJ, free refreshments and giveaways, including the chance to win more than $1,000 in prizes and a free one year membership to the gym.

The Knights of Pythias is celebrating its 147 anniversary with a family picnic. Runners Group Kick Off Workshop

In honor of National Physical Fitness and Sports Month, Physical Solutions has organized a Runners Group to train for the Cow Harbor 10K Race in Northport. The group will kick-off with a workshop at 8 p.m. at 1211 Stewart Ave., Bethpage, which will cover the running course, proper nutrition, running pitfalls, injuries and more. LI Chrysanthemum Society

Farmingdale Chapter. The guest speaker is Farmingdale’s own Professor Gary Brown, Ph.D. of Farmingdale State College. Dr. Brown will be speaking on botany and entomology as they relate to growing exhibition chrysanthemums. 7 p.m. at the Farmingdale Library, Merritts Rd. (meeting rooms downstairs). The meeting is open to all Long Islanders who want to learn more about plants, insects, their interrelation and the art of growing giant mums.

The Transition Network

Mix and Mingle with TTN/LI members and learn more about this vital organization. TTN is a community of women 50 and forward, who join forces as they navigate the many transitions from where they are now to whatever is next. Indoor/Outdoor Yard Sale/Pancake Breakfast

Held by the Farmingdale United Methodist Church, 407 Main St. (corner of Grant Ave.), from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine. All types of new and used items will be for sale, including household goods, jewelry, wooden roses, toys and new designer children’s clothing. The youth of the church will also be sponsoring a Pancake Breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m., offering pancakes, sausage, juice, coffee and tea for $5 adults; $2.50 children under 10 years old. All monies raised will support Church and mission projects.

Rebuilding Together, LI

The next meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Farmingdale Library, 116 Merritts Rd. (one quarter mile south of Hempstead Tpke. (Route 24) (249-9090). Rebuilding Together is a non-sectarian volunteer organization that repairs homes for low-income families. For further information, call 541-7322.

Polo Begins at Bethpage State Park

The New York State Office of Park, Recreation and Historic Preservation has announced that Country Farms Polo will begin hosting competitive polo matches, open to the public, at Bethpage State Park’s Polo Field in Farmingdale. Bring a lunch while enjoying the excitement of watching some of the top polo players from around the world. You can view polo matches from the grandstand or bring a blanket for sideline grass viewing. Glass items, pets, and alcohol are not permitted. Matches take place every Sunday at 3 p.m. beginning June 5 and continuing through October. Polo matches are free, however the Park’s Vehicle Use Fee of $8 is in effect. Northside Elementary School Alumni/Faculty 50-Year Reunion

The celebration has been set for Friday, June 10 at 4 p.m. The school reached its 50-year anniversary on Feb. 14. In addition to the traditional “Northside Birthday Party” held annually by the faculty and PTA for current students each February, a special program and reception will take place this year for the adult alumni and former and present faculty in June. Following student dismissal on June 10, a commemorative program will be held in Bicentennial Hall at the school. The ceremony will recognize Rosalie B. Samuels as the honored guest for her outstanding leadership and for the achievements that helped make Northside a special school. Self-guided tours of the school will follow. A reception at Stuart Thomas Manor will be held later in the evening for Northside alumni, who graduated from high school by 2000 as well as for former and present faculty and staff. Admission will be by prepaid ticket. Relatives and friends of the Northside alumni are asked to share the message about the event. Stroke Support Groups

Stroke Life Society is a community organization of survivors and co-survivors in the pursuit of living and helping others. A stroke can be very isolating. By sharing experiences and encouraging one another, together we can face and overcome common challenges. All welcome. RSVP is requested but not required. This professionally facilitated group meets on Mondays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and allows participants opportunities to share feelings and strategies related to caring for a person with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia.
