Congratulations to 12-year-old Garden City speedster Stephanie Gerland, who scored as the second woman overall in the 8th annual Heart & Sole 5 Kilometer Run through the streets of Plainview on Sunday, July 10, 2011.
Gerland crossed the finish line at the Plainview-Old Bethpage Middle School in 19 minutes, 38 seconds, a pace of 6:20 per mile that brought her to the finish only 41 seconds in front of women’s winner Shari Klarfeld of Plainview.
Tom Glenn of Levittown was the first finisher overall in 17:00.
There were 365 finishers overall. The event was managed by the Greater Long Island Running Club, with the entire net proceeds going to improve patient care at Plainview and Syosset Hospitals. Dr. Alan Mensch, Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs for Plainview and Syosset Hospitals, served as the director of the event.
