Actress and Long Island native Heather Matarazzo announced plans to marry her longtime girlfriend, recording artist Caroline Murphy, after same-sex marriage became legalized in New York state.

According to the Huffington Post, the couple is planning on having an elaborate ceremony with over 200 guests, in either the fall or spring.

“I always wanted a wedding. Not a trip to city hall,” said Murphy.

Matarazzo said she is already searching for the perfect dress.

“When I see it I will just know,” she said.

Murphy claims that she was told by former governor David Patterson that he would marry the pair when same-sex marriage was legalized. “He led us to believe gay marriage would be legal last September,” said Murphy. “And he even agreed to marry us. We started planning on that, and that went away.”

The couple said they had planned to wed two years ago in California but had to cancel their plans after Proposition 8 eliminated same-sex marriages in the state.

The pair are also planning on starting a family together. “We’ve always talked that Caroline would have a child first, then I will go,” said Matarazzo.

Matarazzo spoke about the upcoming nuptials on her official Twitter account saying, “Yep, its official. The wedding planning has officially begun. Thank you guys for all of the love!! Super grateful!!”

The actress revealed she was gay in 2004 during an interview with the New York Daily News. “I met the person I’m so madly crazy in love with,” said Matarazzo. “She’s not famous yet. She will be. She wants to do musical theater and stage, which is not as demoralizing as the movie business is.”

Matarazzo has grown up in the entertainment industry with her first role in “Welcome to the Dollhouse” playing Dawn Weiner. Throughout her career she has had a recurring roles on “Roseanne” and “The L Word” and main roles in the films “Scream 3” and  “The Princess Diaries” with Anne Hathaway.
