Earlier this week, news that there would be a remake to the classic ‘Dirty Dancing’ movie hit the public. Fans shared their excitement, while others shared their anger of the news that the beloved movie would be made again. And what the public really wanted to know was what the movie’s star would have to say.
Nobody puts baby in a corner, but apparently Jennifer Grey who played “Baby” is fine sitting this one out.
Jennifer Grey reacted to news of the remake. Grey, as any celebrity would, took to Twitter to share her feelings, “I love @Kennyortega and trust that he will do something special #DirtyDancingRemake,” Jennifer tweeted.
She posted, “Blown away by all of the love expressed for #DirtyDancing,”
And then again, “Makes me want to see it again. So grateful to have been a part of it.”
Jennifer also reportedly released a statement to WSJ that read, “I’m so excited about this news, and I think there’s nobody better to do this than my beloved Kenny Ortega who is as responsible as anyone for the success of the first one. I can’t wait to see what he’s going to do with it.”
In 1987, Patrick Swayze, who died in 2009 of cancer, and Jennifer Grey made history on the dance floor as the unlikely matches fell in love during a summer in the Catskills. The original film, according to WSJ, made $6 million, nabbed two Oscars and spurred a television series, play and a sequel.
News of the remake came Monday and revealed that the original film’s choreographer will direct the remake.
