Labor Day Weekend at the American Airpower Museum
In what has become a LI Labor Day weekend tradition, the American Airpower Museum at Republic Airport, 1230 New Hwy., Farmingdale, will be offering a holiday filled with activities that salute our military heritage including a Tuskegee Airmen Remembrance flight, Corsair fighters that pay tribute to 100 years of American Naval Aviation, a C-47 Airborne “assault” and an armor parade that salutes those American GIs who rolled across France during the summer of 1944. With period aircraft flying overhead and WWII armor rumbling down the museum’s ramp, flight experiences will also be available for those who want to travel back in time. Tram rides down the flightline will end at the restored control tower for those willing to climb to the top of the restored building. A special tribute will also be paid to former LI defense workers who worked at Grumman or Republic with a number of the museum’s historic Republic Aviation aircraft being displayed for the first time together in one place where they were built decades ago. Those who arrive with LI defense industry memorabilia for permanent display at the museum will be afforded special discounts.
