The KappaSigma fraternity of Adelphi University hosted the Nassau County PAL Special Needs Unit’s Flag Football team for a game on Monday night, November 28. It was the last game of the fall season for the PAL team.
The weather was crisp and clear, the lights were bright and the turf was perfect. With their offence and defense playing for keeps, the 18 athletes held their own against a very fast fraternity team. The game was a seesaw battle and was tied at 19-all when, with only 56 seconds left, a long run off a handoff put the PAL team up by 6.
The extra point conversion was successful and they led by the score of 26 – 19. Then the fraternity team ran a hurry-up offence and passed their way down the field. They put up a touchdown with only 5 seconds left on the clock. The defense of the PAL stiffened and they stopped the extra point pass and so held on for a 26 – 25 win with no time left on the clock.
It was a great experience for all who played and watched. Everyone went home with a good feeling.
