Come out for a live owl presentation, followed by a night hike to hear the calls of native Long Island owls. 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Old Westbury Gardens, 71 Old Westbury Rd., Old Westbury. $10 general admission, $7 for seniors and children 2-12. OBFPD Ride and Food Drive
The Oyster Bay Fire Co. and Atlantic Steamer Fire Co. will be having their annual Santa Ride and Food Drive for Oyster Bay’s needy. This year as never before, there are more people who have fallen on hard times. Santa will be escorted through the streets between noon and 5 p.m. Santa will be handing out candy canes to all the children of the community. At the same time, any non-perishable food or monetary donation to be given to a local food pantry that helps residents of Oyster Bay will be collected. No donation is too small and all will be appreciated. All check donations can be made payable to Oyster Bay Fire Department and the fire department in turn will donate a like sum to the food pantry.

Holiday Breakfast, Santa Photos, Toy Drive
The Kiwanis Club of East Norwich Oyster Bay holds its Annual Holiday Breakfast and Toy Drive at the Oyster Bay Community Center, Church St. Breakfast will be served from 8 a.m. to noon. With a menu of pancakes, bacon, sausages, juice, coffee, hot chocolate and tea, this all-you-can-eat event is reasonably priced as follows: Adults $7; seniors $5; children under 12, $4. Proceeds received are for the benefit of funding their community service activities. The opportunity for sponsorship of this event is being offered to local East Norwich and Oyster Bay proprietors as well as friends of Kiwanis throughout the area. These sponsorships include funding the cost of printing advertising placemats, providing pancake batter, funding the purchase of sausage, bacon, juice, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, milk, butter, syrup, utensils and paper goods. Sponsors will receive special recognition for their generosity. General donations are also gladly welcome. Dinner guests will also have the opportunity for a photo-op with Santa. Photos will be available at the reasonable price of four photos for $10. Bring an unwrapped toy for a boy or a girl which will be distributed to children in the local area during the holidays. An Angel’s Wish Gala Dance
The Christina Renna Foundation is dedicated to supporting childhood cancer research and furthering awareness and education through the support of cancer groups and outreach programs for the direct support of those in need. A prayer, a wish and a dream of a cancer free world. Jan. 13 from 8 p.m. to midnight at Chateau La Mer, 845 South Wellwood Ave., Lindenhurst. Reservations must be made by Dec. 22. Cost $75 donation per person. All funds raised will benefit children’s cancer research at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. Muttontown Unitarian Universalist Fellowship
The Fellowship provides an atmosphere of warmth and comraderie, with talks presented by intelligent enlightening and non-dogmatic speakers who come from the entire spectrum of the Arts, History and Sciences. This is followed by coffee and an informal discussion circle, held in the turn-of-the-18th century farmhouse in a bucolic setting. Sundays at 10:30 a.m. The Muttontown Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is located on the south side of Route 25A (Northern Blvd.), East Norwich, directly east of Martin Viette Nurseries and about a half mile west of Route 106. •Alcoholics Anonymous closed step meeting Sundays at 8 p.m. and open meeting at the same time. On Wednesdays at 8 p.m. there is a beginner’s meeting and a closed discussion meeting. •Syosset Day Chapter/Homemakers Council of NC holds its business meetings the first Wednesday of the month (September through June) at 10:15 a.m. Classes are held on subsequent Wednesdays at 10 a.m. The Homemakers meet at St. Bede’s Episcopal Church, Berry Hill Rd., Syosset. •Bereaved Parents of the USA. This national self-help support group charters the LI NY Chapter. Meetings will be held on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 231 Jackson Ave., Syosset. The group offers support, compassion, understanding and hope. No dues or fees.
•Locust Valley Garden Club. The Executive Board of the Locust Valley Garden Club invites new members to join. The club meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 10 a.m. at Bailey Arboretum. Some of the committees take care of local gardens, do garden therapy with residents of Jones Manor, make projects with the children of the Grenville Boys and Girls Club and decorate local libraries at holiday time. •Getting Acquainted with Social Security. The Incorporated Village of Bayville is sponsoring a service for its retired residents as well as those who are considering retirement. Social Security: Getting Acquainted with Social Security Services will be conducted by Village of Bayville resident, Vincent Serio, a recently retired Social Security Administration agent with many years of experience in the field of Social Security services. He will discuss retirement, disability, survivor and Medicare benefits, in addition to the development and adjudication of the new prescription plan. There will be a question and answer period during which attendees will be given the opportunity to discuss concerns and get clarification on all aspects of Social Security.
