Long Island First Graders Win Green Contest

grenThe first grade class at Portledge School in Locust Valley was the grand prize winner int he “Rock the Statue Green: A Transatlantic Art Contest,” celebrating the Statue of Liberty’s 125th birthday, the environment and Franco-American friendship.

More than 4,000 students participated worldwide. Under the guidance of music teacher, Maureen Husing, the class created a video entitled “It’s Not Easy Being Green.”

They sang an original song about recycling.
