Barrett seeks re-election, Ryan bid for open trustee seat
The Farmingdale 2035 Party has announced their candidates for the upcoming election. Current trustees, Ralph Ekstrand and William Barrett are on the ticket. Newcomer, and longtime village resident, Thomas Ryan is joining the team.
Ralph Ekstrand, a longtime resident of the Farmingdale community and village will run for mayor. The Farmingdale 2035 Party states, “His long-term experience and dedication to the town and people of the town have given him the experience for this position.” Ekstrand has been the pharmacist at Moby Drugs for 31 years and has served on a number boards for various institutions, such as, the Eagle Scout Review Board, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club and The Farmingdale United Methodist Church. He has been the village trustee for the past four years and states that he “continues to strive for excellence on a daily basis.”
Alongside Ekstrand, William Barrett, a trustee for the past four years, is seeking re-election to his trustee position. A lifelong resident of Farmingdale, Barrett is a certified public accountant who earned his BS in accounting from Susquehanna University and a MBA from Hofstra University. He has been a volunteer soccer and baseball coach for kids within the Farmingdale community and is currently a member of the school district’s audit committee.
Thomas Ryan, another lifelong resident of Farmingdale, has placed his bid in for trustee with Barrett. Ryan, a businessman and a home health care provider is actively involved in several state and national associations. He has been named “Homecare Champion“ in 2011 from the American Association for Homecare for his work as CEO in Homecare Concepts Inc, a Farmingdale company that he founded in 1988 involved in respiratory and home medical equipment.
Ryan is a past member of the South Farmingdale Fire Department. He has served on the board of directors of New Island Hospital and currently is a board member of St. Joseph’s Hospital and an active committee member of the finance committee and quality committee at the hospital. The party states, “His loyalty to the village is evident and cannot be overlooked.”
The Farmingdale 2035 Party states that they are “committed to ‘Planning for Farmingdale’s Future.’ These three candidates are dedicated to the Farmingdale community and its longtime residents and business owners who make Farmingdale Village a unique, special place.”
In an open letter to the residents of the Village of Farmingdale published in the January 6 issue of the Famingdale Observer, Mayor Starkie announced that he would not be seeking re-election.
The 2012 election will take place on Tuesday, March 20 at Village Hall.
