Farmingdale Bowlers Going to State Championship

On Saturday, Feb. 4 the Farmingdale Boys and Girls bowling teams competed at the Garden City Bowl for the Nassau County Championship. The tournament competitors consisted of the top 16 teams in Nassau County by pin average per game over a 12-week season. Farmingdale qualified by finishing in fourth place overall.

This year’s team consisted of Joseph Inzirillo, Eric Kennedy, Steve Hamlin, Jonathan Smalkin, Chris Olsen, Chris Valentine and Casey Sparacio.

Last year the boys’ team lost the champions by just 19 pins. The goal for this year’s team was, not only to qualify, but also to win the tournament.

On the day of the competition each team bowls three games and the top 10 teams, from the morning, bowl three more games in the afternoon on a position round format. The Dalers entered the afternoon session leading by one pin. By the end of the 5th game was leading by 89 pins. The sixth and final game was exciting and the Farmingdale boys won by 30 pins to secure the tournament victory.

The boys bowled a total of 30 games in competition and over that period bowled an average of 211.8 per game. Every boy bowled at least two 600 series and one bowled a 700 series. The coach indicated that this was a “total” team effort and congratulates each member. The team is now going, upstate, to bowl against the winners of the other 11 sections in New York for the State Championship on March 3.
