Belly Dance Benefit
Gorgeous belly dancers shimmy and shake at a benefit performance for the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program to be held at the Adelphi University Center in Garden City from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dancers from Harem Belly Dance Studio of Baldwin along with several guest artists will perform. Audience members will have the opportunity to shop, explore and even join in to learn some basic moves. Tickets cost $20, which includes entrance fee, door prizes, free belly dance class and demo, entrance into “the souk” (shopping area) and the show. Irish Festival
Hofstra University presents the 14th Annual Irish Festival from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Physical Education Center, located on the University’s North Campus, Hempstead. The festival celebrates the Irish gifts of music, food and culture to America. There will be a number of music and dance performances throughout the day, as well as activities for children, more than 50 craft vendors and authentic Irish food. New to the 2012 entertainment lineup is Stone Row, performing Celtic and world music with a contemporary edge. Returning performers include: Guest Master of Ceremonies Tony Jackson (WRHU, 88.7FM, Hofstra University), The Black Velvet Band featuring Jimmy Walsh, The Hirten Family Irish Dancers, Katie’s Puppets. Blood Drive
Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Centre invites and encourages members of the community to participate in a Blood Drive to support LI Blood Services from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. on the first floor of the St. Anne’s building on the hospital campus. Anyone between the ages of 17 and 75 who is in good health and weighs at least 110 pounds can donate blood. Healthy individuals over 75 can donate blood if they present written permission from their physician obtained within two weeks of their donation. Women’s History Month Program at Hofstra
In celebration of Women’s History Month, the Hofstra Cultural Center presents Rabbi Barbara Aiello, founder and director of the Italian Jewish Cultural Center of Calabria and Italy’s first female rabbi. The title of her lecture is “The Jews of Southern Italy: A Lost History Rediscovered.” The event will take place at 8 p.m. at Hofstra’s Student Center Theater, Sondra and David S. Irish Cultural Society
Meeting at 7:30 p.m. at the Garden City Library, 60 Seventh St. The Donny Golden School of Dance is sending at troupe of talented and energetic step dancers to the meeting to help the audience get into the St. Patrick’s Day spirit. Dance students of a variety of ages will toe and tap dance, accompanied by young singers and musicians. The directors of the school will bring the audience “behind the scenes” to give the audience insight into the preparation for a dance performance.

Spring Awakening
The Nassau Community College Department of Theatre and Dance presents Spring Awakening, its spring musical. The play will be performed March 15 through 18 and March 21 through 25 at the Mainstage Theatre, Garden City. Spring Awakening, which is rated R, celebrates the unforgettable journey from youth to adulthood with a power, poignancy and passion that viewers will never forget. Adapted from Frank Wedekind’s 1891 expressionist play about the trials, tears and exhilaration of the teen years, the play explores the tortured inner lives of a handful of adolescents in 19th-century Germany with a rock musical score. Tickets cost $15 each; seniors aged 55 and over $12. College students with valid current ID can obtain free rush tickets at the door for that day’s performance. Pain Management Support Group

Nassau All-County Art Exhibit
The Art Supervisors Association of NC welcomes students, parents, art educators, administrators and community members to attend the 2012 Nassau All-County Art Exhibition, which will take place at the Ruth S. Harley Center at Adelphi University, Garden City, from noon to 4 p.m. This exhibition, with no admission charge, will honor more than 1100 kindergarten through twelfth grade students who have demonstrated excellence in a wide variety of two-dimensional visual art forms including drawing, painting, printmaking, computer graphics, and photography. Student entries are selected by art educators and are limited to a maximum of three pieces of artwork from each teacher. All of the exemplary pieces are produced in alignment with the New York State Learning Standards for the Visual Arts. This year, 400 art educators from more than 200 schools in 40 Nassau County school districts, will submit student artwork for this prestigious exhibit.

Cognitive Issues in People with Epilepsy
The Epilepsy Foundation of LI will feature Sarah Schaffer, PhD, ABPP-CN at a workshop at 506 Stewart Ave., Garden City. Dr. Schaffer is senior neuropsychologist at the North Shore-LIJ Comprehensive Care Center and assistant professor of neurology at Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine. This workshop will address the impact of seizure activity, medication side-effects and mood problems, as well as ways to remediate such problems and a discussion of when neuropsychological evaluation may be indicated. The workshop will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Training hours are available for Medicaid service coordinators. Issues in Judaism Lecture Series
The Hofstra Cultural Center and Hofstra Hillel’s Issues in Judaism Lecture Series presents two lectures by Michael Tuchfeld, one of Israel’s leading broadcast journalists. This is Mr. Tuchfeld’s eighth annual visit to Hofstra to present timely lectures on current topics regarding Israel and the Middle East. He is a political analyst and media consultant. He is also former parliamentary correspondent and host of Israel Radio, IBA and Channel 2 news, The Knesset Channel in Jerusalem, Israel. A question and answer period will follow each lecture. Lectures take place at 7 p.m. at the Leo A. Guthart Cultural Center Theater, Joan and Donald E. Axinn Library, First Floor, South Campus, Hempstead. Organ Recital by Katherine Meloan
Katherine Meloan is director of chapel music at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in King’s Point where she is the director of choirs and plays for all services. She has served as music director at Trinity-Saint John’s Episcopal Church in Hewlett and is currently organist at Beth Sholom in Bayside. Katherine is a doctoral candidate in organ performance at Manhattan School of Music. She has an active interest in teaching and is writing her doctoral thesis on Organ Pedagogy for Beginning Organists. Katherine will be playing music of Marcel Dupré, Charles-Marie Widor and J.S.
