Mega Millions Jackpot At Record $476 Million

mega millions1As millions of people across the nation held on tight to their Mega Millions ticket Tuesday night, hoping that it was indeed the golden ticket, sadly nobody came away as the big winner.

The winning numbers in Tuesday evening’s drawing were: 09-19-34-44-51, Mega Ball: 24

The good news is that we will all have the chance to play again with a record jackpot estimated to be $476 million for Friday’s drawing.

If someone does come away as the big winner then they will be able to opt for annual payments for the next 26 years or a cash option of $341 million.

While having that much money is mind-boggling (in a good way), the odds of winning Mega Millions are about 1 in 176 million. But the unfavorable chances of winning mixed with the hefty sum of money is what makes playing and winning so exciting.

The massive jackpot number for Friday’s drawing stems from several winless drawings during the past few weeks. On Tuesday, the Mega Millions jackpot was at $363 million, larger than officials predicted, after no one matched Friday’s winning numbers.

It was the third largest United States jackpot.

But massive Mega Millions jackpots are nothing new, in fact Mega Millions actually holds the record for the largest jackpot in North American history. In March 2007, one lucky winner won $390 million and broke the record for largest jackpot in North America.

The game started back in 1996, and over the years it has become the country’s most widely played multi-state jackpot game, being played in 44 jurisdictions and 42 states, plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
