Vince Young will be taking his quick feet and winning record as an NFL quarterback to the Buffalo Bills, where he will most likely have the same role he had last season—backup quarterback.

“We think adding Vince to our roster will create more competition for the backup quarterback position,” Bills General Manager Buddy Nix said, according to the team’s website. “He brings with him some unique physical abilities that most are aware of and that will make the competition interesting. It’s all about improving our team.”

With Ryan Fitzpatrick as the No. 1 quarterback on the depth chart, Young will be competing to be Fitzpatrick’s backup. His main competition for the No. 2 spot is four-year veteran Tyler Thigpen.

“Thanks to Buddy Nix and Coach [Chan] Gailey for giving me the opportunity to come in and play and compete,” said Young in a statement. “I am looking forward to playing with the guys and helping where I am needed. I have always respected the Bills organization and am looking forward to being a part of the team.”

Young appeared in eight games last season as Michael Vick’s backup in Philadelphia. He threw four touchdowns and nine interceptions in 2011 and had a 60.8 quarterback rating.

Young was drafted third overall in the 2006 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans. Young, who came into the league with plenty of potential, has a 31-19 career record as a starting quarterback.

He was selected to two Pro Bowls.

Young’s career completion percentage is just under 58 percent and his QB rating is 74.4.
