Walk Of Love Walk-A-Thon
Ronald McDonald House of Long Island’s Annual Walk Of Love Walk-A-Thon. The three-mile walk will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at Eisenhower Park. Check-in will start at 9 a.m. Senate candidate George Maragos will be on hand for the opening ceremony and Ronald McDonald will lead the walk at 10 a.m. Registration fees are as follows: $20 pre-registration; $15 children (under 12); $25 day of registration. Registration includes an event T-shirt, special raffle for pre-registered walkers, entertainment, meet and greet with Ronald himself, refreshments, finish line medal and finish line celebration. Miles for Melanoma 5K Run/Walk
At Eisenhower Park Field 2, East Meadow. Skin cancer, with a lifetime risk of 1 in 5 including deadly melanoma, risk of 1 in 50 is an epidemic. It is the most common form of cancer in adults 25-29 and second among 15-25 year olds. Register online or on-site starting 8:30 a.m. Run starts 10 a.m.; walk 10:30 a.m. A $20 donation by May 6 is requested. Under 12 free. After May 6, the donation is $25. Walk For Hunger
Wantagh Memorial Congregational Church will sponsor the 31st Annual CROP Hunger Walk. Twenty-five percent of the funds raised will go to the Freeport Emergency Food Pantry, an outreach of the Long Island Council of Churches. A Night of Improv
The Sarah Grace Foundation For Children With Cancer, Inc., will hold its 2nd Annual Theatrical Fundraiser, “Unrehearsed: A Night of Improv,” at 7 p.m. on June 1 and June 2 in the Hicksville United Methodist Church Social Hall, 130 West Old Country Rd., Hicksville. The family-oriented show will be similar to the popular improvisational comedy television show Whose Line Is It Anyway? The organization collects, preserves and educates history of Levittown. Holds seven yearly general meetings in the Community Room of the Levittown Library and maintains the museum located in the Levittown Memorial Education Center, Room 10, 150 Abbey Ln., Levittown. The museum contains history of Levittown, WWII memorabilia, artifacts from the Levitt houses, toys, furniture, clothing of the ‘40s and ‘50s, replicas of the Levitt kitchen and the Levitt ranch living room. Walls Of Honor
Need a gift for your favorite veteran? The NC Veterans Memorial Fund Inc., a nonprofit organization (not affiliated with Nassau County or any government agency) offers all veterans throughout the U.S. a place on the “Walls of Honor.” These walls are located at Veterans Plaza, Eisenhower Park, East Meadow. It is for those living and deceased who served our county during war and peacetime. Space is available for those interested in including their name or that of a loved one. Proof of military service and a contribution of $100 per name is required. A 50 word or less military biography on each person on the wall will be housed in the veterans tower if requested.
