Editorial: Discovering A Gem In The Midst Of New Hyde Park

Last week I had the opportunity to venture into an area in New Hyde Park that was just a little remote to this reporter.

Having traveled on, over the years, what I thought was every street in New Hyde Park, I found myself going to “Google maps” to find the exact location of Imperial Avenue.

When I turned up the street I felt, wow, I’ve done it again, I’m in the wrong place. But progressing just a bit farther, there it was, the address I had been given for North Shore International, Inc., an exporting company that was to receive the Small Business Administration Award for 2012.

I ran up the steps, pulled on the door only to find that in order to gain access you had to be “buzzed” in. I did, and they did, and there I was climbing another bunch of steps, straight up, to what seemed to be nowhere.

One of the developers of the company met me at the top of those steps and escorted me into a delightful reception area where I was introduced to Edward Kezys, a true, unassuming genius, who has developed a company that exports equipment and accessories for the oil/gas, power generation to Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and other Middle Eastern countries. Imagine, all of this, in a remote location in the middle of New Hyde Park.

It just proves that, in this business, there is no end to the surprises you encounter everyday as you travel the streets of New Hyde Park and then get to write about in the Illustrated News.
