Navy And Marine Helicopter Landing
Nassau County will host the Navy and Marine Helicopter Landing in Eisenhower Park as part of the Fleet Week 2012 activities in New York City. The event, billed “Raid New York” will be the largest Marine/Navy helicopter landing on Long Island. Navy landing at 10 a.m. A combined team of members from the U.S. Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 7 (HSC-7), Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron Seven Four (HSM-74) and Helicopter Mine Countermeasures Squadron FOURTEEN (HM-14) will present a mine countermeasures demonstration. Marine landing at noon. The MV22 Osprey, joined by CH-46E Sea Knight helicopters and AH-1W Cobras, will perform an area sweep and will transport the raid force Marines to the landing zone. The V-22 Osprey is a multi-mission tilt-rotor aircraft with both a vertical takeoff and landing and short takeoff and landing capability, designed to combine the functionality of a helicopter with the long range, high-speed cruise performance of a turboprop aircraft. The helicopter landing, which is free to the public, will be taking place on the Kite Field, just south of the Veterans Memorial in Eisenhower Park, with parking at fields 6 and 6A. A Night of Improv
The Sarah Grace Foundation For Children With Cancer, Inc., will hold its 2nd Annual Theatrical Fundraiser, “Unrehearsed: A Night of Improv,” at 7 p.m. on June 1 and June 2 in the Hicksville United Methodist Church Social Hall, 130 West Old Country Rd., Hicksville. The family-oriented show will be similar to the popular improvisational comedy television show Whose Line Is It Anyway? YES Community Counseling Center, 75 Grand Ave., Massapequa, will be conducting its Annual Garage Sale on June 30 (rain date July 1) at the back of the offices (New York Ave. between Central Ave. and Hicksville Rd.) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. YES will be collecting items, old and new (but saleable). Lazy Days Of Summer Picnic
Plans are underway for the Levittown Community Council’s annual Lazy Days of Summer Picnic to be held at the East Village Green on Jerusalem Ave. on July 7. There will be free entertainment, activities and crafts at the event, which is a fun family day for all, paid for by membership fees and local business donations.
