Congratulations to Cynthia Nixon and Christina Marinoni. According to People magazine, the two tied the knot over Memorial Day weekend.
“Cynthia Nixon and her girlfriend, Christine Marinoni, were legally married in the state of New York,” on Sunday, her representative told the magazine. “Nixon wore a custom dress by Carolina Herrera.”
The redheaded couple got engaged three years ago to support same-sex marriage in New York, which was not legal then.
“I’m enjoying being engaged very much,” Nixon said in 2010. “I don’t mind a long engagement, which this one is surely turning out to be.”
The couple has a child together, Max Ellington Nixon-Marinoni, who Marinoni gave birth to in February 2011.
He is the third child for Nixon, who had two children with former lover, photographer Danny Mozes.
The bisexual Miranda Hobbes, the character which Nixon is best known as from the popular HBO series Sex and the City, has also been know to stir up controversy in her personal life.
During an interview in Sunday’s New York Times Magazine in January, Nixon claimed that for her homosexuality is a “choice.” The interview was conducted in order to promote her presence in a Broadway play that opened later that month. When speaking to a gay audience her speech included the line, “I’ve been straight and I’ve been gay, and gay is better.”
After getting flack for the statement, she refused to change her stance on the issue. “And for me, it is a choice. I understand that for many people it’s not, but for me it’s a choice, and you don’t get to define my gayness for me,” she said.
