“Hemingway & Gellhorn” premiered in theaters on Memorial Day and it’s all anyone can talk about.
The Internet Movie Database describes the movie as, “A drama centered on the romance between Ernest Hemingway and WWII correspondent Martha Gellhorn, Hemingway’s inspiration for For Whom the Bell Tolls and the only woman who ever asked for a divorce from the writer.”
The flick has an IMDB rating of 8.2, and the trailer has been viewed almost 150,000 times.
Hemingway is rumored to have based his story “For Whom the Bell Tolls” off his tumultuous relationship with Gellhorn.
In the film, Ernest Hemingway is played by Clive Owen and Martha Gellhorn is played by Nicole Kidman.
The trailer is nothing short of dramatic. It starts out with Nicole Kidman narrating, “I remember thinking the first time I saw him, who is that large dirty man in those disgustingly soiled clothes.”
In Kerry Stahl and Barbara Turner’s version of the Hemingway/Gellhorn romance, Hemingway does not want her to leave. “How the hell you think you’ll manage that? You ever try to go into a war zone?”
The film is not all drama and no fun. Hemingway jokes to Gellhorn, “Let me tell you something about writers, the best ones are all liars.”
The movie had been described as oddly addicting, even though it’s weird that they have Hemingway continually refer to his love interest solely by her maiden name.
