The summer reading programs at the local libraries have kicked off and are in full swing. While registration is still available, readers can still join their respective age-appropriate program online, as the public libraries have continued the popular paperless processing from last year’s success.
Readers can join at: www.nassaulibrary.org and then clicking through to their home library. The Levittown Public Library is hosting a program for adults this year.
After registering, readers can stop by the library to pick up their kick-off prizes. Each age-level has slightly different milestone goals and prize offers. Readers who complete the program before the end of the program will be invited to the end of the summer party at their home library.
Some of the libraries are also offering a “read-to-me” program for parents and pre-school toddlers. Program requirements for the children and teens, are that the titles read be age- or grade-equivalent.
The library offers suggested reading lists for each level, in addition to the schools’ suggested reading lists for the summer. Even if you don’t have time to join the read-review summer program, stop in and pick up a new summer read, or loaned DVD title. Local libraries are also beginning to loan e-readers, and loaned e-titles, downloadable to your own personal e-reader. The summer, like anytime, is a great time to stop by your local library to see what’s new for patrons.
