New Hyde Park/Garden City Park Reorganization

Gentile re-elected president; Joseph Bongiorno, vice-president

The New Hyde Park/Garden City Park Union Free School District held their monthly board of education meeting on July 2. The primary focus of this meeting was reorganization, with the appointment and reappointment of many members of the district and the board itself.

The board of education saw no change in its staff as each of the primary members was reappointed at the meeting.

Members who were reappointed to their positions were: Ernest Gentile as president of the board, Robert Katulak as superintendent, Lori Carrick as treasurer, Patricia Olive as district clerk, Joseph Bongiorno as vice president, and Frank Miranda as trustee.

Following his reappointment, Robert Katulak gave a brief report regarding the district’s achievements and ongoing projects.

First, Katulak was proud to announce that Garden City Park School, Manor Oaks School, and Hillside Grade School were chosen as three of the 230 reward schools recognized by the state for excellence and high test scores.

Katulak then went on to explain that the capital reserves project has begun its work in all four schools of the district.

The capital reserves project intends to fix and renovate many installations across the four schools, including lighting, sidewalks, playground safety, heating/cooling, fixtures, and ceilings/walls.

Katulak urged residents to follow the progress of the project online at the district’s website where regular updates will be made.

The last order of business for the meeting was the appointment and reappointment of personnel across the district. After a short while, numerous positions were filled, including the appointment/reappointment of 42 substitute teachers, a substitute nurse, two physical education teachers, a reading teacher, special education teacher, librarian, art teacher, door monitor, and classroom aide.

For the full list of personnel appointed to these positions, see the July 2012 Agenda file found at www.nhp-gcp.org under the calendar section.
