Cantiague Park Senior Men’s Golf News

The Cantiague Park Senior Men’s Golf League had its 10th tournament on July 6. The group had 41 golfers on a beautiful but hot summer day. There were 28 pars but no birdies and seven golfers who scored 39 or better. Bruce Danen won the low actual score with a very fine 36. A very overachieving Don Sterling, with a 44, won low overall net, which hopefully he can continue to build on after some rough outings recently. Match play has begun with some very close matches in the first round.

The next tournament will be on Thursday July 19. Sign in will be promptly at 7 a.m. and the rain date is Friday, July 20.

Competition on the nine hole course is divided into two divisions. Flight A is for players with a handicap of 13 or lower. Flight B is for players with a handicap of 14 or more. The league is a 100 percent handicap league. Any man 55 years or older is eligible for membership. The group extends a welcome to new members David Landy and Tony Macaluso.

There is room for a few more golfers this season. If you are interested in joining the league, please call John Bosco at 512-0050 for more information. The league includes an optional match play competition beginning in July and includes recognition of a yearly overall club champion by awarding points throughout the year. There are numerous opportunities for cash prizes for individual achievement utilizing your handicap in every tournament.
