Benefit for the Matthew Fetzer Foundation for children with cancer
On June 16, Sagamore Yacht Club hosted the 13th Annual Friends of Oyster Bay (FOB) Race and Post Race Party for the benefit of the Matthew Fetzer Foundation — which helps children with cancer.
The Matthew Fetzer Foundation in Bayville is a charity founded by the parents of Matthew Fetzer, a young child who succumbed to the ravages of cancer. It was through the years of his valiant battle that his parents came to realize that so many children were in this same situation, battling for their lives, and were losing whatever little childhood they could have.
It was to help these children and their families that the Fetzers established the foundation in Matthew’s memory.
The Foundation, at our local hospitals, creates events and outings for children suffering from cancer so that they can enjoy experiences that other children take for granted.
The race was organized by Vice Commodore Mike Gehrling assisted by Todd Fields, Eric Smith, Andy Scoltock, and Bob Betensky.
Eleven boats participated in the 13th Annual FOB race. The post race party followed at the SYC club house.
The event was organized by Deanna Flannagan assisted by Georgia Gehrling , Diane Mullan, Ann and Ray Wulff, Pat Farnell, Kerriann Brosky, and Charlie Secker.
Hors d’oeuvres, a BBQ dinner and an Ice Cream Sundae buffet was catered by Jack Halyards of Oyster Bay.
Music was provided by the Reggae Band Quadralove.
Raffle prizes were donated with the proceeds going to the Foundation.
