Suffolk County Police arrested a Port Jefferson Station man for driving while intoxicated with a 2-year-old child in the vehicle Sunday at 12:50 a.m.
The 23-year-old, Martir Alonzo Gonzales, was driving a 1995 Chrysler north on Ocean Avenue in Ronkonkoma when cops observed the vehicle travelling in an erratic manner and began following the vehicle as it turned onto the eastbound service road of the Long Island Expressway. Gonzales was stopped on the Long Island Expressway between Exits 60 and 61, where officers determined that he was under the influence of alcohol and placed him under arrest. At the time of his arrest, there was a woman and two-year-old child in the car with him.
Gonzales, of Port Jefferson Station, was charged with one count of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger 15 Years Old or Younger, Leandra’s Law, and also with one count of Driving While Intoxicated. Gonzales is scheduled to be arraigned Sunday in First District Court in Central Islip.
