Pop/rock singer Kelly Clarkson took on a very unlikely performer to imitate this week when she covered an Eminem hit.

Clarkson covered “Lose Yourself” during a performance in Detroit, Mich. thanks to multiple fan requests.

“We have this thing called fan requests, and I’m not being very brave tonight with this fan request,” she tells the crowd while throwing on a gray hoodie, reminiscent of the one Eminem donned while performing the song.

She joked:  “When you listen to him on the radio and sing along in your car, you’re a lot more badass than you actually are because when you get alone without Eminem doing it with you, it’s not as good” before pulling the hoodie over her head as the music started.

“I went from Texas to thug,” she said. “If this sucks, you better still come to my shows.”

Clarkson went on to sing the rapper’s famous lyrics: “His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy, there’s vomit on his sweater already, mom’s spaghetti, he’s nervous, but on the surface he looks calm and ready to drop bombs, but he keeps on forgetting what he wrote down, the whole crowd goes so loud, he opens his mouth, but the words won’t come out, he’s choking how, everybody’s joking now, the clock’s run out, time’s up over, bloah.”

“Lose Yourself” was first released by Eminem back in 2002. It was the first single from the 8 Mile soundtrack and was written during the filming of the movie. In the movie, Eminem played Jimmy  “B-Rabbit” Smith, a frustrated rapper who struggled with a whole lot more than his career.

Eminem’s song became an instant success, reportedly peaking at No. 1 on multiple charts, including the US Billboard Hot 100. It also reportedly became the first rap song to win The Academy Award for Best Original Song.

Clarkson’s surprisingly great rendition of “Lose Yourself” proved successful too, as audience members applauded wildly as she finished. The performance also became a viral hit with hundreds of thousands of views since first being posted.
