On Sunday, Aug. 12, the Farmingdale Greendogs became the 2012 13U National Junior Champs. The Greendogs had a long and grueling summer schedule of baseball, culminating, for the final weekend with a two-out-of-three best championship against the defending 2011 champions, the Baymen of Oyster Bay.
The boys battled through the blistering summer heat both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday’s first game went to the Greendogs (14-2) while the second game went to the Baymen (3-1), forcing the final game for the championship on Sunday.
It was a complete pitchers’ duel for the first four or five innings, then the Greendogs drove across two runs in the fifth. The Baymen came back with one run and then the Greendogs tacked on one more run for a final score of three to one.
