Levittown Community Church Announces New Fall Schedule

Church to combine with Parkway Community Church

The Levittown Community Church has embarked on a new venture with the Parkway Community Church in Hicksville. After 63 years of separate church work, the two congregations are uniting their services to their communities.

The two congregations will celebrate a united worship service at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 95 Stewart Avenue in Hicksville. It will be both Grandparent’s Day and the start of the new school and church year. The focus will be on children, and there will be religious classes for all children from nursery through eighth grade.

The guest speaker, Dr. Denis Demers, will share concerns and available assistance for senior citizens. Dr. Demers is currently with the Mental Health Association of Nassau County, serving as a part time consultant including professional and community educational presentations on issues of maintaining mental wellness for seniors and social and family re-integration of military veterans.

Immediately following the worship service the new congregation will celebrate with a barbeque. A special tent will be set up with additional information for the seniors from the Mental Health Association of Nassau County and The Health & Welfare Council of Long Island. All are welcome.

The building at 100 Periwinkle Road in Levittown will still be active in a number of ways. The offices of the pastor and staff will be located there, open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Community groups such as AA and Daystar Dance will meet as usual, the ELIJA School will continue to conduct their classes on-site, and the church will continue their Annual School Supply Drive in association with Astoria Federal Savings and Loan, the Bereavement Group which is open to the community, and the ongoing food drive to support the Hicksville United Methodist Church Food Pantry.

Special services will be conducted throughout the year at 100 Periwinkle Road.  These include: the third Annual Tribute to Veterans Benefit Concert on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 1 p.m.; an Ecumenical Thanksgiving Eve Service on Nov. 21 at 7:30 p.m.; and a Christmas Eve Candlelight Service on Dec. 24 at 7 p.m.
