Farmingdale’s PAL Flag Football league kicked off another season Sunday at Woodward Parkway Field. For the next eight weeks, more than 1,000 boys and girls will play hard, practice good sportsmanship and have some fun all at the same time. Good luck to all the players. Have a great season. Here are some highlights from week one.
Pee Wee 2—The Saints and Steelers engaged in an exciting offensive seesaw battle on Sunday with players on both teams showing determination and great effort. The Saints were led by the stellar play of Josh Behar and Torin Kassenbaum who not only produced all of the Saints’ scoring but made big stops on defense. The last play of the game was a thrilling TD pass from QB Mike Connolly to Kassenbaum.
The second grade Jets opened with an impressive game against the Giants. Olivia Cassese ran the length of the field for a touchdown on the first play of the game. Quarterback Chris Kosinski threw two touchdowns. The first was a short screen to Anthony Ventiere and the second was a long bomb to Brian Berge. Tommy DeRespino, Tyler Kretzmer, and Alena Godas all scored touchdowns on long runs. Bryan Birkl and Philip Pierro also contributed to the offense with big runs.
Pee Wee 3—The Steelers defeated the Giants in a great game. Kevin Piranio scored on a 30-yard run to open the game. Nick Napolitano and Nick DiSanti each had two touchdowns and two interceptions. James Zanelotti had a 30-yard run to finish off the scoring.
Girls 5th/6th—The fifth and sixth grade Saints played an exciting game against the 49ers winning 13-8. Kayla Poltorak caught a touchdown pass from Sophia Iaccino for the team’s first touchdown of the season. The sure-handed Dunn sisters, Sammy and Kristen, each caught two passes to keep the offense moving. Julia Graziano scored the second touchdown on a long run that was followed by Samantha Mayers catching the extra point in the back of the end zone. Kristin Browne and Olivia Frost also contributed to the offense with big runs. Nicole Kosinski anchored the defense with three blocked passes and two flag pulls.
