Elfia Presta of East Norwich had one small request for the Oyster Bay Enterprise Pilot, this Monday, Sept. 17. That was to remind people about cancer and the need for a cure. Her prayer was, “Dear God, I pray for a cure for cancer. Amen.” She hoped we would pass along that prayer.
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the American Cancer Society is gearing up for a walk on Jones Beach.
It is called 2012 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and it will be held at Jones Beach on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 8 a.m.
The ACS said, this year, Making Strides is celebrating 20 years of saving lives. In the last two decades, the breast cancer death rate has dropped by 32 percent. Your breast cancer donations, participation, and volunteer efforts will help us continue fighting back against the disease. For information about the walk, please call Anne Thorsen, senior director for special events at 631-300-3166. It is a Nassau/Suffolk walk.
So let’s all help Elfia have her prayer answered, and take part in the Making Strides Walk, whether in person or with a donation. Elfia’s note mentioned the many forms of cancer and asked that we consider those that have touched our loved ones. Since cancer has many forms it is easy to find one to relate to. It is in actuality, too easy.
