Billy Minicozzi Knows Oyster Bay
Billy Minicozzi said the mystery picture in the Oct. 4 issue of the Enterprise Pilot is of the parking lot at TR beach. He is correct. On a sports note, Billy said he is glad the referees are back in football. “They call them zebras,” he said, because of their striped jerseys. And as a current news item he added, “ The Bayville Haunted House begins on Friday, Oct. 12.”
If you haven’t seen the work of the Bayville firefighters and friends as they create a haunted house, do take the time to go and visit it. It is worth your time.
Marian Liskowicz called to say, “The photograph was taken at the Theodore Roosevelt Park in the area where the clammers come to get their boats.” Correct and well explained.
Gregory Adami said, “You couldn’t get any easier. The picture is the main entance to Roosevelt Park where you drive your car in. It’s looking at the old baseball field. The new field has a soccer and football memorial at each corner as well as a flagpole. The picture was taken standing where the Atlantic Steamer boathouse is located. The picture was taken on a cloudy day.”
Mr. Adami said he is going to the Oyster Festival. He said, “I am going to try to enter the oyster eating contest. I’ve been wanting to do that for years. I’m not practicing. I have a generous stomach and I can slip those things down in seconds flat.”
The photo, FYI: was taken on Sept. 11, 2012, as we left the 9-11 memorial ceremony.
Maddie Askeland, a student at the Vernon School, correctly identified the mystery picture as, “The parking field in Theodore Roosevelt Park, looking at the turf field.” Maddie has played on the turf field and she will be playing there during the Oyster Festival. She is one of the youngsters who won the NFL Punt Pass Kick competition hosted by the Oyster Bay Rotary Club on Sunday, Sept. 23 at the East Woods School. She will be competing in the Island Sectional Championships, to be held on Sunday, Oct. 14, at 10 a.m. on the TR Park turf field. Sectional winners will advance to the team championship competition, to be held at Met Life Stadium during a Jets pregame ceremony.

Belle Santora also called and identified the mystery pictures as the entrance to TR Park.
Preston Rosh of East Norwich also called with the correct answer, that it was at TR Park and near the playing fields.
And while we are talking about the Oyster Festival, just FYI: while talking to ASFC ex-chief Frank Ozol, he said the company is active in the Oyster Festival. “We will be standing by for any emergency, as we always do. Also, we go around and check the propane tanks being used at the food court to be sure they are not leaking. At the ASFC house on East Main Street, we will be selling chili hot dogs and clam chowder. Both are made in the firehouse. Home cooking by the crew,” said Mr. Ozol.
By the way, we are not including any recipes this week. Our escarole soup with garbanzo beans needs another try before we are satisfied. It was a learning experience. But, more recipes are welcome.
