Belle Santora Knows Oyster Bay

“That’s the building where they repair the wooden boats,” said Belle Santora, just as we were finishing a “mystery-mystery” picture column. She is correct.

We were just going to say, “In this case we understand that it is a difficult photograph to identify in the Oct. 11 issue of the Enterprise Pilot, but there are clues there. No mystery picture goes in without some way for a person to have a good way to guess what it is, to give those little gray cells a workout, as Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poiret would say.”

Well, at 101 Belle Santora’s grey cells were working just fine.

Betty Tiska is also thinking fast. She said in an email. “Today’s OBEP mystery picture was taken at Building J located on West End Avenue at the Western Waterfront.  The picture in the photograph is a copy of the magnificent rendering of the future Ida May by artist Ken Marcell.  The picture is hung on the frames of the soon-to-be oyster dredging boat replica.

“Who else tells you this stuff?  Okay, probably a zillion people will know the answer after they visit Building J this weekend,” she said accurately.

Therefore, we can tell you, photo credit goes to Gregory Druhak. The print is of the Ida May oyster harvesting boat that volunteers are building there in building J. Thank you for calling Belle!  Thank you Betty!
