Manhasset High School Class of 1962 50th Reunion
The Manhasset High School Class of 1962 will be holding its 50th reunion on the weekend of October 19 to 21 in Manhasset with a dinner dance at the Strathmore Vanderbilt Country Club on Saturday night. The class will have cocktails on Friday night October 19 at Edison’s Ale House (nee Gino’s) 550 Plandome Rd., from 7 to 10 p.m. On Saturday, there will be a tour of the high school, including lunch, starting in the cafeteria at 11:30 followed by the MHS versus Valley Stream South home football game at 2 p.m. Saturday evening is the dinner/dance from 7 p.m. to midnight at Strathmore Vanderbilt Country Club, 260 Country Club Dr., Manhasset. The weekend will conclude with brunch at the Roslyn Claremont Hotel, 1221 Old Northern Blvd., Roslyn, from 9 a.m. to noon. Sagamore Hill National Historic Site will host a traditional fall family festival from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The festival will celebrate Sagamore Hill’s agricultural history as well as Theodore Roosevelt’s 154th birthday. Activities will include entertainment for children, old-fashioned games and crafts, interactive farm demonstrations, exhibits, music, farm animal petting area, food vendors, Theodore Roosevelt as portrayed by James Foote and more. •Oct. 21: Nature Walk at Sunken Meadow State Park at 8 a.m. Sunken Meadow has a wide range of topography that sustains a variety of flora and fauna. The three miles of beach meets tall, glacier-formed bluffs at the west end of the shoreline. A man-made dam separates the park’s brackish creek and marshes from the tidal flats. South of the flats are acres of undeveloped and heavily-wooded rolling hills. A $10 entrance fee is charged from 8 a.m. on. If you have an Empire State Passport, admission is free. •Oct. 27: Walk/Run for Conservation and Wildlife Fundraiser at Planting Fields, 9:30 a.m. HOBAS’ First Ever Walk/Run for Wildlife. This fundraiser is for everyone and anyone willing to walk, run or do a combination of both in order to raise money for conservation efforts such as habitat restoration, wildlife research projects, and other conservation initiatives. Registration is $25 per person for adults (raise a minimum of $50 and fee will be waived and you will receive a t-shirt), $15 for kids under the age of 18. Children under the age of 5 are free. Raise at least $100 and be entered to win a gift basket filled with $250 worth of gift certificates from local merchants. U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Needs Oyster Bay Recruits
The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla in the Oyster Bay area is recruiting new members. They are needed to assist the Coast Guard in performing Homeland Security missions and to implement the Coast Guard’s many recreational boating safety programs. No experience or boat is required. Muttontown Unitarian Universalist Fellowship

Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery
Is open 7 days a week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (weekends, Memorial Day through Labor Day until 7 p.m.) and is located on the south side of Route 25A on the Nassau-Suffolk border. Group programs will be held on selected Saturdays at 10 or 11 a.m. A reservation must be made in advance. Fish feeding demonstrations are held every Saturday and Sunday. The public is invited to observe a staff member feeding thousands of trout at 1 and 3 p.m. Summer programs are offered for youngsters who will be entering Kindergarten in September up to children who are entering grade 7. Features NYS’s largest collection of freshwater fish housed in two aquarium buildings, six outdoor ponds, where brook, brown and rainbow trout are raised and sold to enthusiasts who use them to stock their ponds. In addition to the trout ponds, the hatchery also maintains a warm water fish pond and a turtle pond. Catch and Keep Trout Fishing is a recent addition to hatchery activities.

Disabled community members needing a ride to a medical appointment, procedure or the like are encouraged to call the above number to request an application for service. Once approved, transportation will be arranged with the Hendrickson Bus Corporation, which is providing specialized vehicles for a fraction of the cost to the Charitable Fund. Donations are needed to help continue this invaluable service. Your tax-deductible gift to the Oyster Bay Charitable Fund will enable a handicapped individual to regain his/her independence. Sagamore Hill National Historic Site
The Old Orchard Museum is closed Monday and Tuesday now through Memorial Day. The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There are daily ranger talks and walks offered. See the Visitor Center for more information. Call 922-4788.
Sailboat Racing
All are welcome to participate in these evening races within the Oyster Bay and Cold Spring Harbor area. After the races, gather back at the club for refreshments and stories of that evening’s race. It is a great way to begin, whether for a skipper new to racing or a novice just wanting to assist as part of the crew. Open to all sailboats of Oyster Bay who register with Sagamore’s Race Committee. You do not have to be a member of Sagamore Yacht Club to join the Wednesday night racing program.
