Karen DeVine, a local businesswoman who owns the Francis P. Devine Funeral Home, was supposed to run the NYC marathon on Sunday, Nov. 4. When it was cancelled she put her energy to work collecting food, clothes and toiletries for Hurricane Sandy victims in Breezy Point and delivered it with the help of local firefighters and the Hendrickson bus company.
Karen was running the 2012 NYC Marathon with Fred’s Team to support crucial research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and to specifically to run with Aubrey’s Team. “The funds raised under Aubrey’s Team go directly to pediatric cancer research,” said the mother of two.
“I joined to make a difference in the fight against cancer and raise funds that can change — and save — lives,” said Ms. DeVine-Taglia.
Congratulations to Ms. DeVine for doing the proverbial, turning lemons into lemonade. Congratulations for making the best of what life hands us.
