The MacArthur Generals opened up their season with the Annual MacArthur Holiday Wrestling Tournament earlier last month. The Generals had a great tournament and took home the first place team plaque followed by a tough Monsignor Farrell High School which finished in second place. Mepham High School rounded out the top three.
The Generals finished the tough day with seven finalists and crowned four individual champions at their respective weight classes.
Freshman Travis Cooksey won his first varsity tournament at the 99lbs. weight class, while brother Justin Cooksey took home a first place medal at 126lbs; he is a 2012 New York State Tournament finalist, and was named Outstanding Wrestler for the tournament.
Senior Robbi Bennett and Junior Steven Schneider found gold medals at 138lbs. and 160lbs weight classes. Finalists Vincent Thron, Anthony Boccasini and Mike Marrero all had great starts to their season and took home second place.
