Mozart’s Requiem (Levin Edition) And Solemn Vespers

The Long Island Chorale Society with chorus, orchestra and professional soloists, led by the baton of musical director Meredith Baker, presents selections composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. First Ladies Tea

In celebration of Women’s History month, the Garden City Public Library will be celebrating the women who have helped shape life in the White House with a First Ladies Tea at 1:30 p.m. Chef Barbara Sheridan will be demonstrating a special afternoon tea menu inspired by dishes served at the White House. Some of the dishes to be presented include: Martha Washington’s Spice Cake, Jackie Kennedy’s Poulet Chasseure, Mary Todd Lincoln’s Strawberry Scones, Laura Bush’s Crab Salad on Blue-Corn Chips. Hot tea will be served and so remember to please bring a favorite teacup. Registration began in person on Sunday, Feb. 24 and is limited to adult Garden City Library cardholders.

Hofstra Law will be hosting a free legal assistance clinic for all veterans. Free consultations with pro-bono attorneys who specialize in elder law, tax, wills, estate, family law, VA benefits, claims, disability, employment, USERRA, housing, bankruptcy, debtor/creditor matters, Medicare/ Medicaid, landlord-tenant issues and more. Pregnancy Conference

Mercy Medical Center invites families planning to have children or are already expecting, to a day-long educational seminar. The  8 a.m. to 3 p.m. “Birth, Baby and Beyond” pregnancy conference will feature exhibits, workshops and presentations by physicians, nurses and staff addressing various aspects of childbirth, including labor, delivery, breast feeding and parenting. Workshop presentations will include information about mental health for the family before, during and after delivery; pain management during labor; basics of newborn care; and a Daddy Boot Camp that will provide tips and strategies for fathers. There is a registration fee of $10 per person or $15 per couple that includes continental breakfast and lunch along with free raffles, giveaways and door prizes. Financial assistance is available. Sale To Benefit Library

A bargain book sale will be held from 9:30 a.m.–4 p.m. at the Garden City Public Library (GCPL) located at the corner of 60 Seventh St. and Hilton Ave. Friends of the Library will sponsor this sale with all proceeds to benefit GCPL. Buy hardcover books for 25 cents each and soft cover books for 10 cents each. Cultural And Recreational Affairs Board Of Commissioners meets on the first Tuesday of each month (except July and August) at 7:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s Senior Center.

Volunteers Sought For Breast Cancer Program

If you’ve had breast cancer and want to pay it forward become a hotline volunteer. Women and men who are breast cancer survivors and others who are concerned about breast health issues can become volunteers at the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program in Garden City. Volunteers can help by doing fundraising and publicity, as well as by answering hotline calls. Hotline volunteers provide emotional support, information and referral services to callers with breast health concerns. Although the program is housed on Long Island, hotline services and telephone counseling are available to callers throughout New York State. Creative Cups

The popular, life-affirming event of the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program, is returning and people are invited to participate by becoming a sponsor. Garden City Public Library Movie Screenings

Friends of the Garden City Public Library invite resident adults to free movies on Mondays at 1:30 p.m., from January through April 2013 at the Garden City Public Library located at 60 Seventh St. Monthly movies themes are: January “Broadway to Hollywood,” February “Love is in the Air,” March “It’s a Disaster,” and April “Great Books.” Movie dates are: March 4, 11 & 18; April 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29. Free Breast Cancer Support Group In February

The Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Program is offering a new support group for anyone who has done genetic testing and tested positive for breast cancer. The group will meet on Monday evenings from 7 to 8:30 p.m. for eight consecutive weeks, beginning on Feb. 25. There is no cost for the group; however pre-registration is required. The Nassau County Women’s Bar Foundation and the Alpern Family Foundation sponsor these groups.

Monthly Cancer Support Group

Franklin Hospital’s cancer support group meets in the former coffee shop at North Shore LIJ Franklin Hospital in Valley Stream. (Please note the new location for 2013.) The group regularly meets the first Monday of every month from 2 to 4 p.m. It is open to all cancer survivors, including family members and is ideal for people who need someone to talk to about the illness. Discussions include new medicines and treatments, advice on how to cope and also provides emotional support. •A telephone support group for women with breast cancer will be held weekly for eight weeks from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Furniture Needed

The A.T. Stewart Exchange Consignment Shop, 109 Eleventh St., Garden City, is looking for furniture to add to its inventory. The shop can use cocktail tables, end tables, consoles, chairs of all types, dressers, dining room tables, breakfronts, servers, secretaries, mirrors, etc….it’s all in demand. If you have a particularly large piece, take a picture, and show it to Kris or Jill at the shop (516 746-8900). Consignees get 50 percent of the selling price. Parking is convenient because the shop is located on the lower level of the Garden City Historical Museum.

Clutterers Anonymous (CLA), a 12-step self-help group, offers help and support to those who have clutter problems in their homes or workplace. •Group 1: A woman’s bereavement group is available to help women share and learn about their grief. Groups are held on a weekly basis and are facilitated by a licensed clinical social worker.

•Group 2: The death of a love one is hard for all of us but especially for children. A 12-week bereavement support group is available for children ages 7 to 9. Groups will be held on Saturdays and are facilitated by a licensed social worker.

Cradle Of Aviation Museum

In the world of aviation, signals and coded messages are an important part of how airplanes and air traffic control speak everyday. The Cradle of Aviation Museum has a variety of free family activities. Walk through the eight museum galleries and you’ll walk through over 100 years of aerospace history with 75 planes and space craft and a variety of examples of how pilots navigated and communicated from the early days of flight through the space program. Museum activities are free with admission and are available each day from noon to 4 p.m. The museum also is home to the IMAX Dome Theatre and is located on Charles Lindbergh Blvd., Museum Row. Creativity Classes For Women

City Folk, Inc., 45 New Hyde Park Rd. (one block south of St. Anne’s Church), Garden City, offers Creativity Classes for women. It’s a great opportunity to have fun, while experiencing your creative side. Learn many different craft techniques in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Create a one of a kind craft project that is uniquely your own. No experience needed, just a desire to have fun. Each class includes a demonstration, lesson and supplies needed to complete the project. “Creativity Night” is also offered. Bring your group or club together for an exciting evening out. Epilepsy Foundation

Located at 506 Stewart Ave., Garden City (516-739-7733) the following is offered:

•Free Puppet Show on Seizure Disorder. A free children’s program on epilepsy using the internationally acclaimed “Kids on the Block” troupe of puppets to public and private elementary schools. These shows are appropriate for the 3rd and 4th grades levels but can be tailored to your needs. Programs are also available for junior and senior high classes. Sons Of Italy

Order Sons of Italy in America is seeking new members to join the America Lodge #2245, Franklin Square, Elmont, West Hempstead, Floral Park, Garden City, Stewart Manor and Malverne. A membership drive is currently in progress. The America Lodge #2245 is a co-ed lodge with many projects that enhance the preservation of the members’ Italian heritage.
