Learn Mah Jong
Mah Jong classes by Jacqui Palatnik, a master player, will introduce you to the tiles, and basic moves of this ancient game. Because new cards will not be available until April, the instructor will provide the cards for this session. TRS &AC Lecture
A lecture, Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary, Ninety Years of Conservation, will be presented by Ted Scherff and Jennifer Zaso on Thursday, March 14, at 7 p.m. in the OBHS’ Koenig Center, 20 Summit Street. In 1923 the Audubon Society was entrusted with twelve acres of land in Oyster Bay to preserve in memory of Theodore Roosevelt. Call 922-5032 for information.

Opera Night
Founder Isabella Eredita Johnson will bring her group of gifted musicians to perform arias from some of the most beloved op- eras: La Boheme, Tosca, Madame Butter- fly, Aida, Le Nozze di Figaro, as well as art songs of Schubert, Wolf, Liszt and Schumann on March 17, at 4 p.m. at Christ Church. The series goal is to foster the production and appreciation of opera and chamber music in the Long Island community. Suggested donation: $15. Call 922-6377. Underground Railroad
Kathleen G. Velsor will speak on The Underground Railroad on Long Island: Friends in Freedom on March 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Koenig Center, 20 Summit Street, OB. From the arrival of the Quakers in the seventeenth century to the enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation, Long Island played an important role in the Underground Railroad’s work to guide slaves to freedom. The Friends of Sagamore Hill (FOSH) hosts the Dr. John A. Gable Lecture Series, held in Christ Church Parish Hall, 61 East Main Street on Thursday, March 21, with Roger L. Di Silvestro, naturalist and editor and author of Theodore Roosevelt in the Badlands: A Young Politician’s Quest for Recovery in the American West. t; on Thursday, April 18, Chip Bishop discusses his latest book The Lion and the Journalist, portraying the friendship of Theodore Roosevelt and his biographer Joseph Bucklin Bishop. The Thursday, May 16, lecture features photographer Xiomáro, draws on his experience photographing the interior of the Roosevelt home at Sagamore Hill, after removal of the house’s furnishings as part of the site’s rehabilitation project. OB-EN Budget Workshop
The Oyster Bay-East Norwich board of education holds its third budget workshop on April 2 at 8 p.m. in the Oyster Bay High School library. Residents are welcome to attend and learn about the process of how the board deliberates on how to balance a budget with student achievement as a top goal within the constraints of NYS Department of Education unfunded mandates, the NYS 2 percent cap on budgets, etc. Community comments are welcome. Meetings continue on April 16 and May 7. They include power point explanations of the budget. You can go to obenschools.org to download budget material. The budget vote and trustee election is scheduled for Tuesday, May 31 at the high school from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Food Pantry
The North Shore Assembly of God, 84 Orchard St, Oyster Bay is operating a new food pantry for the community. It is meant to supplement the growing needs of the community. It is open on Tuesdays during their prayer times: 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. If you are in need of their service, please call Pastor Diane at 922-2547 and make an appointment to complete their screening process.
