26th Annual Angel Ball
The Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc. (LICADD) will be holding its 26th Annual Angel Ball Celebrating the Stars of Recovery at the Garden City Hotel. Guests will enjoy a red carpet entrance and reception at 6:30pm, followed by dinner, dancing, and a silent auction at 7:30pm. WABC-TV’s Entertainment Reporter Sandy Kenyon will emcee. Garden Stage Presents Sloan Wainwright
Sloan Wainwright will perform at 8:30 p.m. preceded by an open mic at 7:30 at Garden Stage in Garden City. A member of one of the industry’s more respected families, Sloan Wainwright, counts Loudon Wainwright, Kate McGarrigle, Rufus, Martha and Lucy Wainwright Roche as relatives. More importantly, Wainwright defies standard categorization, consistently demonstrating her easy command of a variety of American musical styles pop, folk, jazz and blues held together by the melodious tone of her rich contralto. Title Swap
Trying to find a new mystery writer? Looking for your next book club pick? Or maybe you want something fun and light to read? Join the library for the new reader’s advisory series “Title Swap with the Librarians” on that will be held from 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m. on the Lower Level of the library. Title Swap is a lunchtime series of programs that gives patrons and librarians the opportunity to share their favorite book titles and briefly discuss them. In addition, patrons will have the opportunity to learn more about the other services that the library offers. For those unable to attend the program, a list of the discussed titles will be found at the Reference Desk after the program takes place. Bring your lunch and coffee and tea will be served. This program is open to all adult Garden City Public Library cardholders and registration is not necessary. Don’t forget to bring at least one book title that you would recommend.

A Reliable Wife Book Discussion
Robert Goolrick’s A Reliable Wife is the selection for The Friends of The Garden City Public Library book discussion to be held at 10 a.m. This book discussion moderated by Gloria Weinrich will take place in the library’s small meeting room on the Lower Level and is limited to 20 participants. No registration is necessary. Copies of the book are available at the Reference Desk in the library.

Summer Tumblers Workshop
At 6:30 p.m., instructor Irene Marchese will teach a class on how to hand-paint six lemonade/iced tea tumblers with a fun and entertaining summer motif. With this one-stroke painting technique, even beginners can create a lovely work of art. This creative program is for adult Garden City residents only. In-person registration began Saturday April 20 and is limited to Garden City Public Library cardholders. Non-residents will be accommodated on a space-available basis.

Garden City Library Movie Screenings
Friends of the Garden City Public Library invite resident adults to free movies on Mondays at 1:30 p.m., from January through April 2013 at the Garden City Public Library located at 60 Seventh St. Monthly movies themes are: April “Great Books.” Movie dates are: April 29. Pick up a copy of the movie flyer at the library. All movies are unrated. Movie titles are subject to change. Seating and parking is limited and on a first-come basis. No tickets are required. Furniture Needed
The A.T. Stewart Exchange Consignment Shop, 109 Eleventh St., Garden City, is looking for furniture to add to its inventory. The shop can use cocktail tables, end tables, consoles, chairs of all types, dressers, dining room tables, breakfronts, servers, secretaries, mirrors, etc….it’s all in demand. If you have a particularly large piece, take a picture, and show it to Kris or Jill at the shop (516 746-8900). Consignees get 50 percent of the selling price. Parking is convenient because the shop is located on the lower level of the Garden City Historical Museum.

Monthly Cancer Support Group
Franklin Hospital’s cancer support vgroup meets in the former coffee shop at North Shore LIJ Franklin Hospital in Valley Stream. (Please note the new location for 2013.) The group regularly meets the first Monday of every month from 2 to 4 p.m. It is open to all cancer survivors, including family members and is ideal for people who need someone to talk to about the illness. Discussions include new medicines and treatments, advice on how to cope and also provides emotional support. Free Breast Cancer Support Groups
The Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer program is offering new support groups. There is no cost for any group; however pre-registration is required. Additional groups are formed upon request, including groups for men with breast cancer and family members. All groups meet at Adelphi University School of Social Work in Garden City. •Support group for women newly diagnosed with breast cancer will meet weekly for eight weeks from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

•Support group for women with metastatic breast cancer will meet weekly for eight weeks from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
•A telephone support group for women with breast cancer will be held weekly for eight weeks from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
