Women’s Club Of Farmingdale News

The Women’s Club of Farmingdale had their last meeting of the club year on June 6 at Allen Park. The club celebrated with an “All American Picnic” arranged by Barbara Hoerner and her committee, Ann Lomonte, Lynn Connolly, Joan Vallarella, Valarie Thieke, Cheryl Parisi, Rosemary Trudden, Ingrid Hernandez and Loda Romanelli. The picnic was catered with delicious desserts made by the committee.

Bea Ferrari led members in a prayer and Pledge of Allegiance. President Maria Ortolani greeted members and guests. A brief meeting followed. Budget Chairperson Elena Guercio presented the philanthropic budget, which was discussed and approved.

The club members were honored with three military guests, Army Capt. Leigh Auletta from West Point, Marine Sgt. Philicia Bangaru and Marine Sgt. Daniel Mueller. They gave a most interesting talk on the work of the USO. A raffle was held with the proceeds going to the USO.

Barbara Hoerner and Dolores Cianciabella were nominated for “Order of the Rose”, and given a certificate and lovely red roses. The Order was established to honor members who have been placed on the GFWC-NYSFWC honor roll and continue to be very active members within their club and community.

At the GFWC-NYS convention that was held in May, the Women’s Club was awarded a total of 18 awards including a special anniversary scroll honoring us for 100 years of distinguished service to the community and state.

Profits from the sale of the cookbooks, including a special 100th anniversary edition enabled the club to present Nina Petersen, director of St. Kilian’s Outreach with six $100 gift cards to the Farmingdale Meat Market.

A first for the Women’s Club, members proudly marched in the Memorial Day parade.

The club presented awards at the Farmingdale High School Awards assembly on June 4 to the following graduating students:

The Joseph P. Connelly Humanitarian Award was given to Julianna Mullane; Abigail E. Leonard award to Christopher Olsen; Award in memory of Elizabeth Allen to Julia DiPalma; Women’s Club of Farmingdale award to Evan Saur.
