Ten years is equal to 3,652.4 days. That is the amount of time that the Garden City High School Girls Swim Team has remained undefeated and in the process, won 100 consecutive dual meets. Think about that for a minute. The last time the Lady Trojans lost, George W. Bush was in his first term, Michael Phelps was three years away from winning his first gold medal and tweeting was something that birds did. It’s all thanks to Garden City High School alum and this year’s Female Coach of the Year, Anne Sullivan. As if her success with the gals wasn’t enough, Coach Sullivan also led the boys team to an undefeated season that found them nabbing their first County Championship since 1999. Dedication, an ironclad work ethic and discipline in the form of six day a week practices are just some of the ingredients this exemplary coach uses to attain these lofty heights. It’s also how the Lady Trojans set the record for the longest streak of any sport in school history, a record they are sure to add to come the 2013-14 swim season.
