Fall Programs For The College Bound

This fall look for special YA programs for college bound students, including programs on study skills, practice SAT/ACT exams, and college planning. More information is available on the library’s website and in the ‘Tweens and Teens Room. Registration for all YA programs may be done in person at the Young Adult desk, by phone to the Young Adult Librarian 516-742-8405, by email to mkelly@gardencitypl.org or online at Eventkeeper. Go to the website www.gardencitypl.org and click on the Calendar of Events to register online.

Students in grades 10 -12 are invited to take a practice SAT/ACT at the library on Saturday, Sept. 28 from 10 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Kaplan Educational Testing will administer a practice exam which combines the types of questions that appear on both the SAT and the ACT. The exam will begin at 10 a.m. At noon there will be a break for a lunch or a snack which must be brought to the test. No one will be permitted to the leave the lower level of the library. Testing will resume at 12:30 p.m. and end at 2:30 p.m. Registration begins on Saturday, Sept. 7 for the practice SAT/ACT combo test. This program is limited to 25 YAs.

Kaplan will return on Wednesday, Oct. 9 from 7 -8:30 p.m. to review the actual tests and analyze the test scores. There will be an analysis of the student’s strengths and weaknesses. Guidance will be given to decide which exam to take for college admissions as well as which test is better suited for the individual student. Registration for the results presentation is automatic when registering for the test. Parents/guardians are welcome and encouraged to come to this presentation.

Funding for all young adult programs is provided by The Friends of The Garden City Public Library (GCPL). Registration is online on Eventkeeper at www.gardencitypl.org Every ’tween and teen must have their own library card to register for programs. Priority is given to GCPL cardholders. Non-residents will be accommodated on a space available basis. Registrants must be present at the time the program is scheduled to begin or their place may be given to those on the waiting list.
