State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver has claimed that he “welcomes” an ethics investigation into his public (but secret!) $103,000 payoff in the Vito Lopez sexual harassment case, but I wonder if he truly “welcomes” being investigated — any more than:
A mouse “welcomes” a cat
A defendant “welcomes” a conviction
A goalie “welcomes” a goal
A student “welcomes” a bad report card
An editor “welcomes” an embarrassing typo
An ant “welcomes” an anteater
A liberal “welcomes” a conservative
A giraffe “welcomes” a stiff neck
An elephant “welcomes” an earache
A teenager “welcomes” a curfew
or a farmer «welcomes» a drought
