Village of Farmingdale Mayor Ralph Ekstrand answers your questions
Q: What is going on with the Waldbaum’s site?
A: The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has declared the former Waldbaum’s as a superfund site. Any entity that purchases the land now becomes a responsible party to pay for its clean up. The ground water remediation will take about five years to complete. The former owners walked away from the mortgage which was payed to a commercial mortgage backed security trust. The village is trying to find who actual has title to the land now. No person or company has expressed any interest to the village concerning use of the site.
