Ffoure Pounds Sterling Opens
Ffoure Pounds Sterling, an exhibition organized by the Oyster Bay Historical Society in partnership with the Town of Oyster Bay and other lenders is open now through Jan. 19, 2014. Ffoure Pounds Sterling exhibits a representative selection of documents, correspondence, maps, and manuscripts from the 17th through the 20th centuries, many of which have never been previously exhibited. Among the earliest manuscripts on view is the 1653 First Purchase agreement with the Matinecocks, preserved in the Office of the Town Clerk in Oyster Bay, as well as the 1661 agreement granting Henry Townsend permission to build his mill at Mill Pond, on loan from the Townsend Society of America. Victorian Spiritualism Lecture
Raynham Hall Museum presents a lecture on Victorian Spiritualism on Nov. 2, All Soul’s Day, followed by a re-enactment of a séance, and an automatic drawing experiment. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served. Guests are asked to wear black evening or period attire. Please call 516-922-6808 for reservation information. Attendance is by reservation only.
Halloween Regatta
Dawn Riley of the Oakcliff Sailing Center said there is room for one Grade 3 – for the Halloween Regatta Nov. 2 and 3, with Friday practice available. There is room for one more team. Call 802-0368 for information and to see if it is still available.

Movie: 42
The Bayville Library will be showing the film 42, at 2 p.m.. The library is located at 34 School Street in Bayville. Everyone is invited to attend, refreshments are served. There is no fee but donations are accepted.

Clinegatta
The final graded event at the Oakcliff Sailing Center is a Grade 5 Clinegatta on Saturday Nov. 9. Dawn Riley said, “We are still taking entries and rumor has it we have some new teams using this to settle scores from the squash court. Every Sunday you can commune with nature and at the same time get your adrenaline rushing with a morning of match racing on the Match 40s. Be at Oyster Bay Marine Center at 9:30 a.m. for a 10 a.m. start.
LV Poets Society
The Locust Valley Library Poetry Society, hosted by Mankh, holds an open reading, Giving Thanks. Everyone is invited to bring poems of gratitude, appreciation and thanks. Readings are followed by an open mic. Light refreshments will be served. All welcome. This event is funded in part by Poets & Writers, Inc., with public funds from the NYS Council on the Arts with support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the NYS Legislature.

Veterans Day Dinner Dance
The Robert H. Spittel American Legion Post 1285, Bayville, holds a Veterans Day Dinner Dance on Nov. 16 from 7 to 11 p.m. at 45 Bayville Avenue. The event is open to everyone. Space is limited and early reservations are suggested. Tickets are $50 per person. Includes soda and one alcoholic beverage. Free valet parking, buffet dinner, D.J., dancing, Chinese auction, raffles, 50/50, cash bar. The event is a benefit to sport the post.

Nelson DeMille Lecture
Raynham Hall Museum presents the first of its lecture series “Spymasters: The uses of Intelligence in a Dangerous World.” The series was inspired by the museum’s identity as the home of a central member of George Washington’s Culper Spy Ring, a forerunner of today’s C.I.A. first speaker is best-selling novelist Nelson DeMille. He will be speaking on Nov. 17, at the Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club from 3:30 to 5:30 P.M. Tickets are $75 each, or $50 for members. All three lectures cost $200 per person or $125 for members. The second lecture is by Brian Kilmeade on Sunday, Jan. 19. He is the author of George Washington’s Secret Six of which one is Robert Townsend, Culper, Jr. The third lecture in the series will be by Evan Thomas speaking on March 9. A “Local son” Thomas has authored eight books. His most recent is Ike’s Bluff: President Eisenhower’s Secret Battle to Save the World (2012). Space is limited, so please call 922-6808 to reserve.
Lyric Opera
The Friends of the Locust Valley Library host the Capitol Heights Lyric Opera company who will perform arias and duets from Rossini’s masterpieces The Barber of Seville and Carmen. Co-sponsored by the Town of Oyster Bay, on Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. Light refreshments and concert in the Community Room.
