Holiday Gift Giving Through Manhasset Schools

Within our community, there are families that are economically at risk. These families are facing serious hardships and are often unable to provide basic-need items such as food and clothing for their family. The Holiday Gift Giving

Program was created to assist those families within our school district during the holiday season and provides a wonderful opportunity to make a meaningful difference to others. Your generosity can help bring a smile to a child this holiday season — a child who may share a classroom with your own child.

There are two basic ways to participate in the Holiday Gift Giving Program: one is to sponsor a child, or multiple children within the same family, and shop for and purchase gifts from a child’s “wish list” (items include toys, clothing and/or basic-need items); the second way is by purchasing gift cards for a family. Gift cards are a gracious way to help assist families with basic household needs.

All families are recommended to the Holiday Gift Giving Program by the Manhasset Schools’ social workers.

The program is confidential; you will not know the child’s name, nor will they know yours. Through this program and the generosity of parents, students, teachers and neighbors in our community, we were able to fulfill over 150 “wish lists” for children in need within the Manhasset Public Schools last year.

If you are interested in participating in this program, please visit: www.manhassetsca.org to download the Holiday Gift Giving Form. Completed forms should be returned to the appropriate committee chair (please see form for details) by Nov. 13. If you have any questions regarding the program, please contact Lisa Middleton at lisaruss@optonline.net or 627-0757 or Monica Zenobio at mzenobio@optonline.net or 365-6355.

Your kindness will help make a difference and brightens a child’s holiday.

Your Voice is Needed On the Upcoming Budget

The SCA Community Education Committee is hosting a “Listening Tour” with Manhasset School Superintendent Charlie Cardillo. Please participate in an interactive discussion with the Superintendent about the state of our schools and their future. The event includes a carousel activity where small groups rotate through short questions, brainstorming responses and offering opinions and insights. The exercise then shifts to priorities and concludes with a review of the responses. The entire activity runs 1 1/2 hours. This is an opportunity for you to voice your opinion on the state-of-the-state of our schools and their future direction and assist as Mr. Cardillo gathers information to use as a blueprint for moving forward.

If you are available to participate on any of the following dates/times, please contact Mimi Donohue at donohuemimi@aol.com. In order for this exercise to be effective, participation will be limited to the first 20 responses per date. Nov. 13, 10 a.m, or Nov. 20, 7:30 p.m, Secondary School Board Room
