Youth Winter Swim Lessons
The Garden City Recreation Department will be conducting children’s swimming lessons for village residents at the Adelphi University Swimming Pool in Woodruff Hall on Saturday mornings. Your child must be six years of age by the start of the program to participate. This 10-week session will begin Saturday, Dec. 7. Classes are taught by Red Cross-certified instructors. The cost is $75.
To register, please pick up an application at the recreation and parks department at 108 Rockaway Ave. or download it from our website at www.gardencityrecreation.org. Registration is by mail only at this time.Walk in registrations will not be accepted until Tuesday, Dec. 3.
Levels are as follows:
Level 1 — Introduction to water skills
Level 2 — For children who have taken a lesson but need to learn fundamental skills
Level 3 — Will build on fundamental skills by providing guided practices, begin to learn basic strokes
Level 4 — Develops confidence in the strokes learned and improve other aquatic skills
Level 5 — Provides further coordination and refinement of strokes
Level 6P — Personal Water Safety — stresses survival floating, treading water, swimming in clothes, etc.
Level 6F — Water Fitness – sessions will cover learning training techniques, how to use fins, kickboards, pace, clock, etc.

Floor Hockey Registration Begins
The Garden City Department of Recreation and Parks will again offer a floor hockey program this at St. Paul’s Field House. The program will be open to village residents in grades K through 6 on Fridays beginning Dec. 4 according to the following schedule:
Grades K – 3: 6:15 to 7:15 p.m.
Grades 4 – 6: 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The cost of this six-week program will be $30. Registration For Women’s Dance Performance Group
Registration has begun for the recreation and parks department’s women’s dance performance group. Any women, college aged or older, who is a Garden City resident, may join this group. This group meets every Saturday at St. Paul’s Cluett Hall from 10-11 a.m. to rehearse choreography which culminates in a performance at Adelphi in May. Classes began Saturday, Nov. 16. The cost of this program will be $200.
Garden City Pool Interviews
The department of recreation and parks will be holding interviews for prospective pool employees (you must be a graduating high school senior or older) for the upcoming 2014 season on the following dates:

Long Island Chorale Society — Messiah At Adelphi
The recreation and parks department has secured discounted tickets to the Long Island Chorale Society’s performance of Messiah at Adelphi University’s Performing Arts Center on Saturday, Dec. 21 at 8 p.m. This trip is on your own and tickets can be purchased by Garden City residents at the recreation office (108 Rockaway Ave.) for the following prices: Adults — $15; Seniors — $5

St. Paul’s Adult Programs Begin In The Field House
The recreation adult programs in the field house began on Wednesday, Oct. 16 with the following schedule:
Mondays
Mens’ Open Basketball 7:30-10 p.m.
Mens’ Over 30 Basketball 7:30-10 p.m.
Wednesdays
Mens’ Open Basketball 7:30-10 p.m.
Mens’ Over 40 Basketball 7:30-10 p.m.
Thursdays
Adult Volleyball 7:30 – 10 p.m.
Adult Soccer 8:30 – 10 p.m.
These programs are open to residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City who have graduated high school. All programs listed are free of charge and strictly “pick up.” A picture ID is required to sign in to any program. For further information, please contact the recreation office at 516-465-4075.
