Light The Night On Sunday

lightthenight'The much awaited Light the Night is scheduled for this Sunday, Dec. 8 at 5 p.m. All of Manhasset is invited to view the lovely streets of the villages of Munsey Park and Flower Hill and be a part of this very special evening. Village residents are urged to participate by purchasing a luminary kit that will line the front of your home and street incelebration of our unity and pride in our vibrant village. “The quiet peacefulness of the evening is the perfect way to kick off the holiday season, come together as a community, and provide a moment to pause and reflect on all that we have to be thankful for”, said Jennifer Johnston, Munsey Park Womens Club co-President.

All proceeds raised by Munsey Park event will focus on community building events, beautification projects and other causes that affect, help, honor the people in the community.

This year contributions were used for the Munsey Park School Sidewalk Project. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Nov. 20 officially opening the walkway. Dr.Jean Kendall, Munsey Park School Principal expressed her gratitude, “Thank you to the Munsey Park Women’s Club Light the Night committee for your generous donation and collaboration with the Munsey Park School SCA and the Village of Munsey Park to finance a wonderful new walkway at the corner of Hunt Lane and Abbey Road. This walkway will bring Munsey Park students and families to our school this year and for many years to come.”

The Women’s Club of Flower Hill has joined in the event to expand the Light the Night beyond Munsey Park’s borders. The proceeds of the event will go directly to the Women’s Club of Flower Hill Philanthropic Fund. The funds are focusede on children’s charities, community organizations and beautifaction projects. Both Munsey Park and Flower Hill womens’ clubs have partnered with Skills Unlimited of Oakdale, N.Y. The organizations does a great job creating and packaging the light kits for this event. Skills Unlimited is an organization that offers people with disabilities the opportunity to build their full vocational potential through training and support for a life of dignity and success.

In the event of rain or high wind, the event will be postponed to Dec. 15 at 5 p.m. If the weather continues to be poor, the second rain date is Dec. 16 at 5 p.m. For rain date information go to www.munseyparkwomensclub.org
