No Surprises: Levittown Fire Commissioner Re-Elected

Voters in Levittown braved the ice and snow in order to cast their ballots in last week’s fire district elections. On Dec. 10, voters re-elected Levittown Fire Commissioner John E. Rottkamp and Treasurer James Behrens to another term.

Running unopposed, Rottkamp was re-elected to his third consecutive five-year term as Levittown Fire Commissioner—receiving a total 179 votes.

“I appreciate the fact that the residents came out and voted,” Rottkamp said, “and I look forward to serving them for the next five years.”

Leading up to his first run for Commissioner, in 2003, Rottkamp was a member of the Levittown Fire Department for over 20 years and had worked through the ranks to earn the title of Chief of the Levittown Fire Department. Rottkamp also has an extensive firematic background, including serving as a second deputy chief instructor at the Fire Service Academy in Bethpage for 11 years.

“I’ve spent more than half my life in the fire department, it’s something I love,” Rottkamp told The Levittown Tribune in 2003. “I thought becoming fire commissioner is something I could do to continue my love for the fire department and I have the experience to do a good job.”

Treasurer James Behrens also won uncontested—with a total of 154 votes—to claim another three-year term in office.
